I adore my KK! December 4, 2008 I have had my 27oz. KK with sport cap for a over a year now and *LOVE* it. It has NEVER leaked and my water always tastes perfect as long as it's cleaned with hot water and soap on a regular basis. I noticed a review that claims otherwise, but that honestly surprises me. I live in Chico (where KK's were created) so they are a dime a dozen here and I have NEVER heard those complaints. Perhaps they got a fluke??
These are now my go-to gift, especially this Christmas.
P.S. Stickers adhere really well to it if you end up personalizing it like I have :)
Klean Kanteen December 3, 2008 The 40 oz. Klean Kanteen stainless steel water bottle that I purchased has been great! It's easy to clean and it's an easy way to have water all the time without purchasing plastic water bottles. I have put stickers on my water bottle of some of my favorite things; my favorite radio station, Lightening 100, my favorite band, The Gabe Dixon Band, and one of my favorite websites, [...]. I highly suggest the Klean Kanteen water bottle for all of your hydration needs.
Decrease in Price AND Quality December 3, 2008 I purchased two of these bottles in May of 2008 with the stainless steel caps. We were very pleased with them and in August I purchased another. Although the third bottle was more than 20% less than when I made the first order, the quality of the bottle has degraded by at least 50%.
It was immediately obvious upon opening the package that this was a much cheaper steel. It is thin, light-colored and rough. The inside of the older version is polished and smooth while this one is dull and hard to clean. My husband convinced me it was still good or else I would have returned it on the spot.
We've had it now for 4 months, compared with the 7 months of the first two. All get the same general treatment and this last one is MUCH worse off. The plastic on the top of the cap is cut up and gouged and cuts into your hand every time you have to open it. More importantly, the steel is dented all over and is beginning to rust. There are dents along the bottom edge as well which make the bottle wobbly and unstable. This has not been through any use to cause such damage. The older bottles, with the thicker, higher quality steel, are holding up nicely and look as new as the day we bought them.
I feel duped by a company that drew me in with a nice quality product and then lowered their standards. I will never buy anything from Klean Kanteen again. The $5 decrease in cost does not make up for the fact that I am throwing this bottle away 4 months after purchasing it.
Good overall, but problems with lids December 3, 2008 I bought two 18 oz Kanteens, one with a loop lid and the other with a flat lid. Though the Kanteen is a good size and easy to hold and clean, the lids have been a problem. The flat lid doesn't always feel like an air-tight seal, probably because of the metal-on-metal connection. It is, however, easier to open than the loop lid, which is very difficult to open unless you have very strong hands or a screwdriver handy.
As advertised December 2, 2008 This is my first stainless steel water bottle (18 oz, with poly loop cap), and I really like it. No more deformed plastic bottle / bad tasting water! The only down side is that the water gets warmer on hot days and cool on cold days. but plastic water bottles have similar problems too.
