Very good systematic breakdown of hitting fundamentals December 28, 1999 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
This video is produced by people who really understand the art of teaching. They systematically breakdown the parts of hitting and present them in a logical order. They also explain the "why" behind most of the steps. As an example, they explained that moving your hands back (relative to your body) as you step forward is done in order to coil your abdominal muscles like a loaded spring. This extra understanding can make practice efforts far more productive than blindly mimicking some prescribed motion. The main area where the video could use improvement is instruction on dealing with ackward pitchs. The video does a pretty good job with the very low in the strike zone pitch. For the very high in the strike zone pitch, the video does say to use the tomahawk, but it doesn't explain how to do it WELL. The video does NOT effectively distinquish between hitting reduced arc pitches and extremely steep arc pitches. From a layman point of view, these pitches seem to require significantly different hitting strategies? All in all, if you haven't had the benefit of great hitting instruction in your softball/baseball background, then this video is worth every penny!
Great video May 26, 1999 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Great video for the novice or intermediate softball players. I've been playing for over 10 years and it was a good review for me. I'm hitting better now thanks to Bob's good tips.
